Bill Boas
Vice President of Business Development
With nearly 30 years experience in the field of high-performance computing and networking, Bill Boas is a recognized technology veteran and a pioneer in the field. Prior to joining System Fabric Works in 2006, Bill was with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL) Computing Directorate from 2002-2006 where his responsibilities included managing the PathForward program development and contract management for InfiniBand and the Lustre File System.
In the late nineties while at Abba Technologies, a systems integrator in which he was co-owner, Bill was instrumental in winning the DOE PathForward contract to help develop the Gigabyte System Networking technology for IBM, HP, and Sun – the technology which evolved into today’s InfiniBand. In the early 1990’s he founded Essential Communications, a leading gigabit networking supplier worldwide prior to the advent of gigabit Ethernet.
Boas holds a BSc.Eng in Computers and Communications and has been a Golden Core member of the IEEE for nearly 20 years.
Bill’s career highlights include being a key founder of OpenIB Alliance in 2002. Instrumental in driving the inclusion of iWARP/RDMA over Ethernet technology to become the OpenFabrics Alliance (www.openfabrics.org) in 2006. Bill initiated the SCinet networks at the Supercomputing Conferences. At SCO5 in Seattle, Bill organized the geographically largest and most vendor-diverse InfiniBand network ever. The network contained over 30 different InfiniBand switches, over 50 hosts/clusters linking the Naval Research Laboratory, LLNL, Intel’s Dupont facility and the SC05 exhibit floor. Bill Gates, the SC05 keynote speaker, used the network to preview Microsoft’s Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003.
